Developing Clinical Strategies for Chronic Pain Cases – St Petersburg, FL

Date:

May 6-7,2017

Description:

Continued education, individualized study and many hours of experience help you to hone techniques, sharpen critical thinking skills, and develop into an extraordinary practitioner. Each time that you attend a high quality continued education course, your clinical reasoning skills expand. Each new set of skills helps to distinguish your work, ultimately making it more unique from other therapists in the community.

This course is designed to build your clinical reasoning skills and help you to develop strategies for addressing issues that play significant roles in the perpetuation of chronic pain. Each time this course is taught it will focus around a particular region of the body, a chronic condition, a set of perpetuating factors or a mixture of these, all of which are often presented with chronic pain.

In this 12-hour course, you will be led from the intake process into an assessment phase and then through NMT strategies for treatment. Within this process many biomechanical, biochemical and psychological factors will be explored, including “red flag warnings” as to when it is unsafe to work or prudent to refer the client to a physician. A hands-on protocol will be covered and a trade of techniques provided for the particular condition that is under discussion.

Selected Condition for This Event: Breathing pattern disorders commonly occur. In fact, most of the participants in this course will display a hidden breathing pattern disorder. In clients with chronic pain, breathing disorders can produce sweeping consequences on health and are rarely recognized by practitioners. The topic of dysfunctional breathing can be used to develop strategies for treatment by exploring the 3-dimensional breath, a variety of dysfunctional breathing patterns and a broad array of consequences that poor breathing habits have on biochemistry and posture. You will perform several assessments of breathing mechanics, use NMT strategies for treating affected muscles, and develop this approach into a standard protocol for assessing and treating this condition. This is a clinical strategy course so the focus is on strategy development rather than a step-by-step routine.
