Tenderly Touching the TM Joint

Description: This 12 CE contact hour course will examine the physiological factors that create or intensify pain in the body and the neurological laws that play varying roles in myofascial pain syndromes. The degenerative processes associated with TM Joint disease will be explored and common dental conditions that affect the musculature and the function of the temporomandibular joint and the common muscular conditions that affect the teeth and jaw Postural and cervical influences will also be spotlighted.

Students will receive training in anatomy, physiology, function and dysfunctions of the temporomandibular joint, as well as common pain syndromes, surgical approaches. A step-by-step hands-on protocol for addressing this joint will be self applied during demonstration and then traded with other practitioners to help clarify all steps of the routine. Also included will be several influential muscles from the cervical region.

Presenter: Judith DeLany

Bio: Judith DeLany has spent almost three decades developing NMT techniques and course curricula for massage and manual practitioners. She has co-authored five NMT textbooks, served for 12 years as an associate editor of peer-reviewed Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, and was primary contributor to Anatomy for Manual Therapies, a 3D interactive anatomy-based software for massage therapists (Primal Pictures, Inc). Her ongoing professional focus aims to advance education in all health care professions to include myofascial therapies for acute and chronic pain syndromes.
